READ THE LINER NOTES
"the Lullabies" is a Los Angeles based songwriter collective featuring critically
acclaimed performers and Silverlake OGs
Stew, fellow STEW/The Negro Problem
member
Heidi Rodewald, Jeff Merchant of PG-13 and Michael Whitmore of
the Whitmore Some'tet and Listing Ship.

What started out as a dinner and casual living room rehearsal for a low key one-off coffeehouse gig (the sole point of which was to have some fun while puzzling their friends and fans) has ended up here: A full length CD, a website, a line of action figures with bar chord grips and a high-powered cigar chomping manager intent on world domination. The fact that the cigar chomping manager seems to be an entity that only members of
the Lullabies can actually "contact" has been the subject of much whispered discussion.

There is an admittedly psycho-eclectic flavor to their CD,
"Lullabies' Lullaby", which naturally reflects the fact that these four friends have somewhat eclectic tastes and without delving too deep into their own preposterously complicated personal lives, decidedly psycho. What we have here is four distinct songwriting personalities coming together to drink affordable wine, listen to Ives, complain about "the good old days of Silverlake" and when that gets old, explore the various elements of the pop spectrum which they represent, reaching from sweet, melodic pop to moody non-pop pop to op-pop, prog-pop and back to the top. But no soda pop.

Or, more to the point, this record answers the musical question: What would it sound like if four friends with very different songwriting styles and endlessly conflicting schedules decided to form a band?

You can hear part of the answer if you go to the "sounds" mp3 page.

We hope you enjoy your visit to
the Lullabies world. And by the way, if you ever bump into a Lullabi sitting by themselves at a cafe table in Echo Park feel free to say "Hi" but make SURE they're "alone" before you attempt further conversation. Because, despite the empty seat next to them, they may just be in "contact" with their manager.
